This was the farewell performance for the last night of CBGB's jazz series. Aside from being a gifted musician, DeePop, the curator of the series, has been a great supporter of free jazz in downtown New York City.
I was very happy that night, and it was nice to see performances of musicians whom I deeply admire and reconnect with old friends whom I hadn't seen in years. I was also happy with the sound of tyhgroup I played with (r. to l: Audrey Chen, Tatsuya Nakatani, Joe Giardullo, and myself). Audrey, Tatsuya, and I had only days earlier completed a tour of the East Coast and were joined by saxophonist Joe Giardullo who brought with him not only his virtuosity and his love of gin, but his boundless positive energy.
